At one point after the pandemic began, passenger traffic at RDU plummeted by 97%. And, while the number of travelers flying through RDU has started to increase over the past few months, we have a long way to go to restore all the nonstop destinations we lost due to the pandemic.
RDU has a $15 billion-a-year impact on the regional economy. It is a vital transportation hub that connects people to the places they want to visit and companies to cities where they want to do business. A thriving airport is also a recruitment tool for companies who want to expand or relocate to the Triangle.
We are here to promote and encourage our many communities to prepare for takeoff and re-ignite life. To fly again, shop again, socialize again. Our region is home to untold great ideas and exceptional experiences. It’s time to let those ideas fly and those experiences lift us up again. So, Triangle, carry on.
The Triangle Takeoff Coalition was formed with five goals in mind:
Regain and secure critical domestic and international travel destinations so we don’t lose them long-term.
Sustain a competitive economic environment.
Build confidence in the safety of air travel.
Reinforce a commitment to the region’s recovery.
Maintain the Triangle’s status as a Top Place to Live and Work.
